Anaergia’s Rialto Bioenergy Facility was built to help meet the requirements of California’s Senate Bill 1383, the pioneering law designed to stop methane emissions from landfills by diverting food waste and converting it to renewable fuel. This huge facility has the capacity to process up to 1,000 tons per day (TPD) of a combination of food waste extracted from municipal waste streams, liquid waste, and municipal biosolids. It then can convert those into up to 1,000,000 MMBtu per year of carbon-negative renewable natural gas (RNG).
We pre-process organic waste at Rialto Bioenergy Facility using our Organics Polishing System (OPS™) to remove residual contaminants and create an organic slurry, which is fed directly to two 3.5-million-gallon food waste digesters. The biogas from the food waste is conditioned to remove contaminants and upgraded to pipeline-quality RNG before being injected into the regional gas utility pipeline system.
The facility also includes biosolids, dryers and a pyrolysis system to convert up to 300 TPD of Class B dewatered biosolids from municipal wastewater treatment plants into fertilizer.
