Anaergia Announces Appointment of Dr. Yaniv Scherson to Chief Operating Officer

BURLINGTON, Ont., and CARLSBAD, Calif., March 15, 2021 – Anaergia Inc. (“Anaergia” or the “Company”), a global leader in converting organic waste into renewable natural gas, fertilizer, and water, announces the appointment of Dr. Yaniv Scherson to Chief Operating Officer (COO), a new stand-alone position at the Company. Dr. Scherson was previously Anaergia’s Managing Director for the Western United States region, a position he has held since 2016.

Dr. Scherson will lead the Company’s ongoing operational growth and oversee its North American sales and execution activities. He will also ensure that Anaergia follows best practices at its operations around the world.  Dr. Andrew Benedek will maintain his role as Chairman and CEO of Anaergia. He is the founder of the Company and he will continue to drive implementation of the Company’s global strategy.

“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Scherson to Chief Operating Officer of Anaergia,” said Dr. Benedek. “In his various roles at Anaergia, Dr. Scherson has demonstrated excellent leadership skills and has delivered outstanding results for the Western United States region. He is truly a capable executive who connects well with employees, customers, and communities and he also understands Anaergia’s robust technology portfolio. These characteristics will enable Dr. Scherson to complement me in managing the Company’s expected rapid growth at a time when governments around the world are favouring the use of carbon-negative fuels such as those produced by Anaergia.”

“I joined Anaergia seven years ago to fundamentally transform sustainable organic waste management and make a positive difference in the world,” said Dr. Scherson. “Over this time, we have established a leading organization backed by a world-class team and technology platform that is building the world’s largest renewable natural gas plants and tackling society’s most pressing organic waste streams – solid waste and wastewater. I’m honored to take on this role driving growth and fueling a carbon-free future.”

In his former role, leading the Western United States region, Dr. Scherson held responsibility for the region’s financial performance and oversaw sales in all its business lines, as well as project development, contracting and negotiations, project execution, operations, and project financing. Dr. Scherson also led the Company’s market outreach and regulatory engagement strategy in California. Since joining Anaergia in 2014, Dr. Scherson has managed applications and process engineering for the company, while supporting global projects in concept, financial modeling, and process design.

Dr. Scherson holds a Ph.D. and a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University where he was also a Postdoctoral Scholar in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
